Top 8 Scariest Movie Aliens
8) The Parasites- Cloverfield
These guys were scarier than Clover. When the giant monster comes to Manhattan, these dog sized bugs fall from his body and go around biting humans. When our group of protagonists go to the the tube, they attack. One of them bites a girl and later on in the film we catch a glimpse of her abdomen exploding because of whatever virus that parasite bought. These monsters brought a whole new level of threat to the movie, one that actually went above the threat of the giant creature and made the already terrifying movie even scarier.
7) Those weird bear things- Attack The Block
Don't miss this gem of a movie, it's awesome. It combines the namesake wit of Shaun Of The Dead and it's terrifying scares with a phenomenally designed villain. These creatures are jet black all over, apart from their jaws which glow bright turquoise. Because of the simplicity of the design, the monsters are even more believable and scarier. This movie is one of the best British horror-comedies, and should not be missed.
6) Killer Klowns- Killer Klowns From Outer Space
Yeah, this movie is ridiculous, campy, hilarious and reminiscent of every 50s B- Movie, but unless you're a snobby critic, it is impossible not to fall in love with the charms and creativity of this movie. Anyway, the villains are Killer Klowns, they are sadistic, horrible to look at and use an array of evil weaponry. Despite their flaws, clowns are as scary as hell, and this movie utilizes that fear almost as well as Stephen King's It did.
5) The Blob- The Blob
Even though the original is ahead of this remake, the villain from that wasn't scary. This one, however is terrifying. The Blob moves faster, uses tentacles that wrap and suck and pull, and the mass itself is far more corrosive, and when you see it dissolve people, it really puts you in your place. Although the 1958 version is more original and interesting, this one has far better practical effects, and successfully uses them to make the viewer fear the blob.
4) The Martians and their Tripods- War of The Worlds
I'm just gonna put it out there. I think Spielberg's War of The Worlds is one of the most underrated movies ever. The fear and suspense of the film's villains never lets up, and it is so successful in making us humans look utterly helpless against that terrifying foghorn. Yes the protagonists are annoying and the ending is unnecessarily sappy, but this movie goes back to Spielberg's best roots and it's effects create a believable and terrifying alien race.
3) The Mist creatures- The Mist
I outright adore the mist. It has so much more originality and scares than a tonne of horror movies from recent years without trying to. It takes cue from other excellent sci-fi monster movies, like The Blob, but it still remains on it's own 2 feet. The creatures themselves were designed fantastically, there are the weird venomous bugs, the ominous tentacles, the spiders with corrosive webs and that massive thing that I can't even describe that appears at the end of the movie and the aliens deliver terror after terror, even though Mrs'Carmody is the true villain. Stephen King's book is worse than this in many ways, especially the film's brutal ending...
2) The Xenomorphs- Alien
Bloody terrifying. I can't even explain the terror and sleepless nights that this alien gave me. It's so clever and well designed and CGI wasn't used once. It was all made from puppets and guys in suits. Now that is awesome.
1) The Thing-The Thing
Most people would put the xenomorphs here, but by the width of a hair, this alien scared me more. The Thing is less a singular alien than some sort of virus, that asimilates flesh and mutates it into horrific monsters created by fantastic practical effects. The setting from this movie makes it ever more suspenseful, and the intelligence of the alien allows the audience to feel massive paranoia as to who has the thing inside them. Phenomenal movie, from start to finish. And it's a remake.
