Try making a simple mozzarella and tomato salad by arranging slices of creamy mozzarella cheese and slices of intense beef tomatoes on a blue plate, and topping it with extra virgin olive oil and chopped basil.
You will have to go back to basics to make some great party food. Simple cucumber sandwiches as they are her majesty's favourite; sausage rolls (vegetarian options, of-course).
Hey dear,I really like your blog and I wish that I could attend the street party but being in a different country i dont think I can, anyhow keep us posted with more
ReplyDeleteGoodness me this is an old post! Street parties to the uninitiated sound like a dreadful, formal dinner party only placed in the grim British outdoors, but they're not. Bunting, laughing and a fabulous feeling of camaraderie uplift the street and bring neighbours closer together. Since roads need to be blocked off as street parties are laid out in the middle of the road they tend to only happen for really special occasions, such as the victory day after WW2. The street party was iconic in building the British culture but also served as an essential backbone to a country that needed joy and rebuilding after being torn by tragedy.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can remember the only real recipe I prepared for this street party was goats cheese truffles. I took clumps of soft goat's cheese and rolled them in my hand into a morsel to be popped thoughtlessly into the mouth. Using (I think) a little warmed honey, honey and goats cheese after all being THE middle eastern combo, I adhered poppy seeds, chopped apricots and some dried herbs perhaps to signify some colour scheme, though I can't remember what.
Thank you so much for commenting- I looked for your email but couldn't find it! I would have loved to reply to you directly!
Lots of love, Greg.
